This week's Staff Pick comes from Karl, aka Black Fan! Karl has chosen the latest release from Melbourne based, multi-talented chap, Harvey Sutherland, which is available from us here.
I’ve been a fan of Harvey’s House releases for quite some time now. Generally I like my 4-to-the-floor rough and stripped down, but Harvey adds a musicality, warmth and groove very much lacking in a lot of modern House. With this release he steps away from the 4-4 beat, but brings his musicality with him in abundance taking us into what will be new Sutherland horizons for many
Lush piano, strings, swirling synths, an hypnotic bass-line and skipping beats all make the perfect setting for a welcome collaboration with the Queen of the London Jazz scene and Bongo fave Nubya Garcia to do her thing with the beautiful elegance you’d expect. Track 2 takes a slightly more synthetic route with arps, stabs and leads all coming together in turn to take us to a delicate jazz guitar drop that goes on to take the lead (for now), all of course pushed forward by some driving Jazz drums.
You don’t need to know there’s a track 3, just buy it and thank him for the bonus.
