Now that it's February and the releases are piling in, we're welcoming back our weekly staff picks! This week's pick comes from Heather, who's chosen Jean-Bernard De Libreville's 'Allons-y Gaiement' - available here.
I’m a sucker for French vocals, fuzz guitar and a couple of catchy flute hooks. This LP has it all! Thanks to the Belgian label and shop Veals & Geeks, 'Allons-y Gaiement' is available on vinyl following a long stint sat on acetate since 1969. A jazzy psychedelic jaunt through the wanderings of what I can only imagine being a very charismatic frontman in Jean Bernard De Libreville. Dancing around lo-fi flute licks in 'Nymphos' to the fuzzy guitar-fueled build of 'Les Pipes', it’s got the laid-back cinematic sound of the 60s throughout. Laden with sultry baselines and occasional vocal growl, it screams tape machines, tube amps and love for psychedelic jazz. Winner!
