Wilson Simonal de Castro was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1939. He was a hugely successful artist throughout the 1960s and 70s, during which time he recorded 20 albums. He was the architect of the pilantragem sound that dominated Brazilian charts during the late '60s, and was the nation's first black pop superstar.
His music features in our Brazil 45's series and on our compilations. One of our favourite Brazilian artists.
